UT TO CROOKED CREEK STREAM RESTORATION
Franklin County, North Carolina

Ko & Associates provided design, engineering, and construction management services for the North Carolina Ecosystem Enhancement Program (NCEEP) with the restoration of 2,295 linear feet of a sand bed stream and 10.8 acres of buffer restoration/enhancement in the Piedmont physiographic province of the Tar-Pamlico River Basin. This project is located within a proposed subdivision, in a rural environment, and required extensive coordination with the developer to include a future roadway crossing within the restoration. Ko & Associates recommended utilizing a multi-barrel stream crossing in lieu of a proposed bridge, which resulted in a $60,000 cost saving for the developer. The multi-barrel culverts will be installed during the stream restoration construction, which will insure the culverts and stream restoration project perform as one system. The proposed channel is designed as a C5 type stream with a re-established floodplain at the elevation of the existing bankfull channel. Rock Cross Vanes, Log Vanes and Root Wads were used in the design to reduce near bank stress, to ensure bedform diversity, and as a means of grade control. The project design and construction are complete.
