US 15 /501 ROADWAY IMPROVEMENTS
South of Chapel Hill, North Carolina
In 1996, Ko & Associates was selected by the North Carolina Department of Transportation to prepare final construction plans for the widening of US 15/501 in Chatham County, south of Chapel Hill.
The project is 5.1 miles in length. This major rural arterial provides a vital link from the I-40 corridor in Durham County to the outreaches of the aggressively developing areas in Chatham County. The project consisted of widening the existing two-lane roadway to a four-lane facility, incorporating four major signalized intersections. The ever changing development along the corridor provided challenges in satisfying the requirements for the more than 150 parcel along the project.
Ko & Associates’ was responsible for roadway and hydraulic design and traffic control and pavement marking plans. The construction cost for this project was $17,000,000.
