In 2003, Ko & Associates was selected by the North Carolina Department of Transportation, through our Emergency Services Contract to provide design services on an as-needed basis, to prepare final construction plans for a two-lane roundabout in the vicinity of Old Salem.
The project had originally been designed by the North Carolina Department of Transportation and had been let to a contractor to construct a bridge replacement project that included improvements at this intersection. It was determined after the contract was let that a two-lane roundabout would better serve this intersection. With time being critical, as the contractor was under contract, Ko & Associates was contracted to provide preliminary designs within two weeks to allow the contractor to begin grading operations with the final plans being completed within 60 days.
Ko & Associates’ was responsible for roadway design and traffic control and pavement marking plans. The project is currently under construction.
