NC 168 ROADWAY IMPROVEMENTS
North of Nags Head, North Carolina
In 1993, Ko & Associates was selected by the North Carolina Department of Transportation to prepare final construction plans for the widening of NC 168 in Currituck County, north of Nags Head on the Outer Banks of North Carolina.
The project is 9.0 miles in length. This major rural arterial provided a vital link from the Virginia state line to the Outer Banks. The project consisted of widening the existing two-lane roadway to a five-lane facility, incorporating sixteen intersections, both signalized and stop controlled. Sensitive environmental issues along the entire corridor length provided design challenges that were satisfied with well engineered solutions in a fragile environment.
Ko & Associates’ was responsible for roadway and hydraulic design and traffic control and pavement marking plans. The construction cost for this project was $16,000,000.
