In 2002, Ko & Associates was selected by the North Carolina Department of Transportation Bridge Maintenance Unit to prepare full construction plans and bid documents for the replacement of 79 structures (70 bridges and 9 culverts) in western and eastern North Carolina.
Ko & Associates’ design responsibilities, in whole or in part, included: bridge design , roadway design, hydraulic design, preparation of the environmental documentation (Categorical Exclusions), traffic control and pavement marking plans, utility coordination plans and permit drawings. The bridge structures consisted of one (1) to four (4) spans, cored slab structures founded on shallow or pile foundations.
In addition to the design responsibilities, Ko & Associates’ managed the subconsulting firms that were providing location surveys and geotechnical investigation and foundation design recommendations.
