Ko & Associates is providing design, engineering and construction management services for the North Carolina Ecosystem Enhancement Program (NCEEP) with the restoration of 11,000 linear feet of Adkin Branch and ad associated unnamed tributary. Both are sand bed streams located in the Coastal Plain physiographic province in the Neuse River Basin. The project is located within the City of Kinston, an urban environment, and requires extensive coordination with the City of Kinston and affected property owners. The proposed channel for Adkin Branch is designated as a B5 type stream, which will allow the stream to dissipate the energy of flashy urban storm flows through pools. The channel type will minimize earthwork excavation and will allow storm flows to be contained within the existing channel corridor. Project design is expected to be completed in January 2007, with construction starting in the fall of 2007.
